United And Gunners Fight For New Ron
Barcelona fear that Arsenal or Manchester United are poised to snatch Mexican starlet Giovanni Dos Santos - dubbed the new Ronaldinho - from under their noses. Both Premiership giants have been tracking the 16-year-old, and could snatch him away from the Spanish champions. Dos Santos has been a star of the World Under-17 Championships in Peru and his performances have alerted the Premiership duo to his stunning talent. The player's agent, Antonio Gonzales, has confirmed interest from Old Trafford and Highbury with Mexican sides America and Monterrey also keen on landing the brilliantly talented teenager. Said Gonzalez: "Everybody has been asking about his contractual situation at Barcelona." Dos Santos, the son of Brazilian ace Zizinho, is captain of his side and has been tipped to have a massive future in the game, with some pundits comparing him to Brazilian sensation Ronaldinho.-Danny Fullbrook, Daily Star
I'm Gunnar Fire Again
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vows he will be back and scoring for Manchester United. The Norwegian striker has been out for over a year with a career-threatening knee injury. He has had two operations, having broken down on his way to recovery. But the hero of the 1999 European Cup final is determined Reds fans have not seen the last of him. Solskjaer, 32, said: “There has been a setback and they have been back inside the knee to have a look. It has not been the same problem but it means that the old injury has been set back a few weeks in healing. But I will be right. I’m hopeful to be back training on November 1. That’s my target.” Solskjaer has been encouraged by the fact United fans have not forgotten him and still chant his name at every match. He said: “It has been a big motivational factor. In fact it’s a bit embarrassing as you never know how you are going to do when you come back. I am working hard to be fit. That’s all I can do.” Solskjaer’s injury was a major blow to Alex Ferguson, who sold David Beckham in the belief he could take his place on the right. Solskjaer admits United need a lift after two successive draws. He said: “If we win a couple of games it will give everybody a boost. Neville Undergoes Operation
Gary Neville will be missing for an extra six to seven weeks after undergoing an operation on his groin injury on Thursday.The 30-year-old defender, who suffered the injury in Hungary against Debreceni, will resume training towards the end of October, and will need a further two to three weeks to recover match fitness.Neville had been training all week but broke down on Thursday, prompting the coaching staff to send him for the operation. The Bury-born right-back has suffered the injury on previous occasions, and it is hoped that the operation will end his problems once and for all."We've had a few set-backs," Ferguson conceded. "His operation on Thursday night was a blow for us. "But I think we have done the right thing. The injury had reoccurred too many times, and when he broke down in training on Thursday morning we knew we had to act."Hopefully when he comes back it will be for the rest of the season without any further hindrance. "It’s difficult to say how long he will be out. But the timescale for the recovery from the operation is about a month. Then you are probably looking at two or three weeks to get back to full pace of training and ready to play in games. It’s six to seven weeks."It’s disappointing for Gary and disappointing for us, but I think John O’Shea will cope with playing at right-back."The United manager is already without Gabriel Heinze (knee), Wes Brown (thigh), Quinton Fortune (knee) in defence. But the Reds have still managed to cope with John O’Shea and Kieran Richardson deputising in the full-back roles."John O’Shea and Kieran Richardson have done very well. They’re young and constantly improving. We also have young [Phil] Bardsley and [Gerard] Pique, who have been training with the first team all season.
